Camp Timberlane 1969-1973

We throw this keylog into the fire to celebrate the Camp Timberlane of Harold Hiken - HH in 1960 and later simply H - who created a culture not just for future tennis pros or those with great jump shots, but for everyone. Whether you loved horseback riding, or slalom skiing, or DJ’d at KTIM radio, or made lanyards in arts and crafts, or printed black-and-whites in the darkroom, or stared at the sky in third period Nature Appreciation, Timberlane was unquestionably for you.
After tricking Sharon by buying a boys camp and not a campground, H infused our summers with unforgettable traditions like throwing oversleepers in the lake, syrup and feathering offenders on tromped up charges just for fun, giving 15-year-olds nights off in town to buy 15 cent beers at the Annex from bartenders Dave (age 9) and Teresa (age 7), and bellowing unforgettable phrases like:
          “You guys are screwing around!”
“Ya screw around, ya cause screw ups!”
“Now hear this, now hear this!”
          “Get the gong!”
          “I’m telling you now”
          “Me firsters are me lasters”
          “One leader!”
“I cried because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet”
And the immortal “You guys are tired,” from which this site borrows its name.
This may be a tired camp, but never will there be another H, and never will we forget the lifelong friends and myriad memories made there.  Benches up!
